How-To / Guidelines

Each template comes with complete documentation, with a full description available here, on Gumroad, and within each template file. We made an effort to write consistent documentation for every file to help you use it. Documentation is the right place to start if you are unsure what to expect from a template. Everyone should be able to make the most of each template, regardless of their skill level. If you are an entry-level InDesign user, don’t worry. These templates are easy to use. Using a template won’t turn you into an InDesign guru right off the bat, but the point is to help you fill your presentation with text and images, worrying less about the form. If you are already an InDesign expert, a well-thought-out template is still a great starting point, an aid, and overall, a time-saver.

Third parties

Designing a layout usually starts with the smallest unit, often based on the body font size, upon which we build a grid that becomes the skeleton of the entire document. So each template design relies on specific fonts and sizes. Thus, changing a font may yield unexpected results. We select beautiful system fonts for most of our templates, so you can start using them right away. For InDesign, Adobe Typekit should cover you if a font is missing on your machine. When a template requires a specific font license, we always tell you that upfront. Any template intended for Adobe software will work on both PC and Mac. You must have a license or a subscription from Adobe to use InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Pages, Keynote, and Numbers belong to Apple free productivity suite and only work on Mac, sorry. We always encourage you to get the proper license for any font family you want to use.

Maintenance and updates

All the templates featured here are either free or have a one-time fee. As a customer, you’ll receive free updates until we no longer support a product. You may get an update once or twice a year. An upgrade sometimes fixes a minor issue, like a typo, or may also involve substantial changes.
