Screenplay template

Cole and Haag screenplay template for Apple Pages

A free custom template for Apple Pages, the free Apple productivity app, designed to help you write in screenplay form.

The Cole & Haag format is an older screenplay format based on Cole and Haag’s book “Standard Screenplay Formats” — it is not widely used anymore today.

How to use: start writing the script in a new document using the screenplay formatting options available in the template.

The title page is pretty much self-explanatory: Title, credit space and contact, the basics.

Then, start writing your screenplay using the Text tab to format your script:

  • SCENE HEADING

  • Action

  • CHARACTER CUE

  • Dialogue

  • Parenthetical

  • TRANSITION

  • SHOT

  • General

The scene index will build up as you fill your script with scenes.

The template uses Courier, the traditional screenplay font, but if you want it to look better, you should use Courier Prime, an open-source font designed by Alan Dague-Greene for John August and Quote-Unquote Apps — you can download it here: https://quoteunquoteapps.com/courierprime.

Note This template does little more than help you format in screenplay form. If you need something that offers specific screenwriting and production planning tools, I’d like to suggest CeltX: https://www.celtx.com. If you are on a Mac and would love a minimalistic, distraction-free tool to write screenplays, Slugline is what you are looking for:https://slugline.co.
